Post-pandemic, it was time to get commuters back on the rails. For Southern Railway, that meant an 8-bit inspired loyalty campaign that rewarded regular travel.

After months of working from home, how could Southern tempt regular commuters back on board? Simple: regular commuters deserve more than just a train journey, so why not reward them with freebies that reflect their long hours riding the rails. The more people travelled, the more they had to gain, from coffees and dinners out right up to weekend breaks.
The campaign came to life across social, with explainers, games and competitions frequently posted to boost awareness and engagement.


Alongside the regular rewards, mini-games helped passengers feel more involved in the campaign.

Customer reviews showed that not only were passengers noticing and appreciating the campaign, they were commuting more. Possibly the only time we’d celebrate busier trains.

All in, a successful campaign that saw Southern gain back thousands of regular commuters, and make passengers happy about travelling on packed rush hour trains. Win-win.
